Despite its scalability, the network faces several technical and security hurdles.
Better: download nodes.dat and place it in eMule’s config folder:

eMule and Kad provide a number of features that make it easy for users to share files with each other. Some of the key features of eMule and Kad include:
Over the next few weeks, Alex became an active participant in the Kad network, sharing his own files and contributing to the community. He was amazed by the power and resilience of the decentralized network, and felt a sense of pride in being part of it. Key Architectural Features If automatic bootstrap fails, add

The Kad network uses a distributed hash table (DHT) to store and retrieve files. When a user searches for a file on the eMule network, their node sends a query to other nodes on the network, which respond with information about the file, including its location and availability. The node that is searching for the file can then use this information to download the file from one or more nodes that have it.
Alex was fascinated by the decentralized nature of the Kad network. He realized that, unlike traditional P2P networks, Kad didn't rely on centralized servers, which made it much harder to shut down.
The first level maps keywords to file IDs; the second level maps those IDs to the actual IP addresses (sources) of peers holding the file. Kad vs. the eDonkey (eD2K) Network
