If you just need to confirm a backup exists or delete an old one, use the built-in tool: but do not alter them.
These folders contain complex databases (a sea of files with scrambled 32-character names). If you rename a file or move it out of the folder, your computer will no longer recognize it as a valid backup, and you may lose the ability to restore your iPhone later. Copy them if you must, but do not alter them.
