By the late 90s, every trilogy needed a bigger superweapon: the Sun Crusher (indestructible, galaxy-buster torpedoes), the Galaxy Gun, Darksaber (a budget Death Star). Force powers became absurd—Luke projects a physical double across the galaxy; Palpatine creates Force storms that devour fleets. It lost the grounded, samurai-warrior feel of the films.

The ancient Republic era spans thousands of years, with the earliest recorded events dating back to around 30,000 BBY. During this period, the Galactic Republic was formed, and the foundations of the Jedi Order were laid.

The comic series Dark Empire (1991) resurrected Palpatine via cloning. This was controversial then and remains so. It undercuts Anakin’s sacrifice, and the “Super Star Destroyer Eclipse ” feels like fan fiction. Yet, it’s canon-adjacent to Legends’ later timeline, forcing readers to accept it.
