Open GApps, short for Open Google Apps, is a project that provides a package of Google applications, including Google Services Framework, Google Play Services, Google Play Store, and other Google apps, that can be easily installed on Android devices. These apps are not included in the standard Android Open Source Project (AOSP) builds, but are commonly required by users who want to access Google services on their devices.
When a device is running a custom Android ROM, such as a LineageOS or Resurrection Remix build, it may not come with Google apps pre-installed. This is because the AOSP does not include Google apps due to licensing restrictions. To access Google services like Google Play Store, Google Maps, Google Drive, and others, users need to install Open GApps.
: Move the downloaded ZIP file to your device’s internal or external storage.
⚠️ If you boot the ROM first, you may see “Setup Wizard keeps stopping” errors. Fix: factory reset and reflash both files together.
: The bare minimum required for Google Play Store functionality. Nano : Adds basic features like "Okay Google" support.
The project is known for its highly automated build system that ensures packages are always up-to-date with the latest versions from the Play Store.
