It has Git support, but it doesn't understand Git LFS, interactive rebase, or even complex branching visualizations as well as modern tools.
The short answer is:
NetBeans 8.2 was released in by Oracle. It was the final "major" release before Oracle made the pivotal decision to donate the NetBeans project to the Apache Foundation in September 2016. Version 8.2 was the swan song of the "old guard"—the last release to carry the classic Oracle branding and the last to focus purely on Java 8.
