Will Turner Captain Of Flying Dutchman

Unlike his predecessor, Will fulfilled the ship’s original sacred purpose:

Will’s transition to the Dutchman’s captaincy was a desperate sacrifice to save his life. During the final battle against the East India Trading Company, Davy Jones mortally wounded Will. To save him from death, Jack Sparrow helped the dying Will stab Jones's heart. Because "the Dutchman must always have a captain," Will's own heart was cut out by his father, Bootstrap Bill Turner , and placed in the Dead Man's Chest, rendering Will immortal but bound to the sea. Role and Responsibilities

He guided lost souls to the "other side," a task Davy Jones had abandoned.

Will Turner became the captain during the climax of At World's End . After being mortally wounded by , Jack Sparrow guided Will’s hand to stab Jones’s heart. According to the ship's "geis," whoever kills the captain must take their place: "The Dutchman must have a captain," and that captain must have no heart. Consequently, Will’s heart was carved out and placed in the Dead Man’s Chest , granting him immortality but binding him to the sea. The Duty and the Curse

He helps the soul rise. The Dutchman dives.
