At the end, Greg is voted "Class Clown" by accident, and Rowley becomes the new "Treasurer" of the Safety Patrol. Greg eventually regrets losing his only friend and works to reconcile with Rowley, learning (though not fully admitting) a small lesson about friendship and humility.
