In the early 2010s, the Barbie franchise was at a crossroads. For decades, the brand had relied on traditional narratives: princess movies, fairytales, and the careful curation of a perfect, aspirational life. Then came Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse (2012–2015), a CGI web series that did something radical: it stopped taking Barbie seriously.
Perhaps the most interesting character shift was the reimagining of Raquelle. In previous iterations, Raquelle was the stock "mean girl" antagonist.
