Based on the short story "Amuthavum Avanum" by Sujatha, the film follows (P.S. Keerthana), a young girl living in Chennai who learns on her ninth birthday that she is adopted. Her biological parents are Sri Lankan Tamils who were separated during the onset of the Sri Lankan Civil War .
