Utilizing qualitative interviews with Phnom Penh-based cinephiles and analysis of local box office data (2015–2023), this study argues that Korean films occupy a unique "middle space" in Cambodia: they are more prestigious than local Khmer productions but less dominant than Hollywood blockbusters. The paper concludes that Korean cinema has not only found a lucrative market but has also indirectly inspired a new generation of Khmer independent filmmakers.
