Disk Utility → select new drive → Erase (choose APFS or ExFAT).
This is the step that confuses most people. You’ve installed the hardware, but Windows doesn't know the drive exists yet because it hasn't been "Initialized." You won't see the drive in File Explorer until you do this.
These offer massive storage capacities (often 10TB+) at a low cost, making them ideal for archiving large video libraries or backups.
After physically installing the drive, Windows/Linux/macOS won’t show it in File Explorer until you initialize and format it.
