For decades, the drive from Belgrade to Kragujevac was a test of patience. Two hours? Three? Sometimes four, depending on truck traffic, winding roads, and the eternal bottlenecks near Mladenovac and Topola. But with the completion of the A1 and A2 corridor integration , and especially the modern (A2), the journey has transformed from a gamble into a smooth, predictable cruise.
The village was a tiny, sleepy affair, with crumbling houses and overgrown gardens. But the Rakia distillery was still thriving, and we were treated to a tasting session by the gruff but lovable owner, Mr. Jovan. His homemade Rakia was potent stuff, but we were adventurous spirits, and we left with a few bottles and a tale or two to tell.
