Before Windows can see the drive, it must be connected correctly. Power down your PC and unplug the power cable. Open the side panel of your computer case.
To keep your main C: drive clean, you can tell Windows to save new data to your new drive automatically. Go to Settings > System > Storage. Click Change where new content is saved. windows 10 add hard drive
Once initialized, the drive will appear as "Unallocated Space" with a black bar. Right-click the block of Unallocated Space. Select New Simple Volume. Click Next through the Wizard.

Once the drive is connected and the PC is on, the drive might not appear in File Explorer immediately. You need to initialize it using Disk Management.
