A key benefit of using PdaNet+ is its ability to hide tethering usage from cellular carriers, allowing users to bypass hotspot data limits or extra tethering fees.

The software offers a "Hide Tether Usage" option. Enabling this routes all traffic through a VPN on your phone. While effective, it means your internet traffic on the PC is technically coming through the phone's IP, which may trigger security alerts if you log into banking sites (they might think you are in a different location).

If found running on an enterprise-managed PC without user knowledge, treat it as a high-severity incident—not because PdaNet itself is a virus, but because it indicates either a policy violation (employee bypassing network controls) or a malware masquerading as it.

| Category | Legitimate Use | Potential Malicious Mimicry | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | | Bypass carrier tethering restrictions on a user's own device. | Malware named similarly to hide in plain sight. | | Network Activity | Constant traffic forwarding; may use non-standard ports (e.g., 4114, 4224). | A trojan could use the same ports for C2 (command & control) or data exfiltration. | | Persistence | Usually runs on-demand, not as a startup service (unless user configures). | Malware would install as a service or registry run key. | | Privileges | Requires administrative privileges to install virtual network drivers. | Malware would leverage this for deep system access. |
