The episode picks up shortly after the events of the film. Having killed the human "gods," the food items of Shopwell’s are now the masters of their own destiny. However, the premiere quickly deconstructs the "happily ever after." The central conflict of the episode is the realization that revolution is easier than governance. Frank and Brenda, the central couple, attempt to lead a nascent society, but they are immediately plagued by bureaucratic hurdles and tribalism. The writers cleverly use this setup to satirize post-revolutionary societies and the difficulties of establishing democracy, moving beyond the simple "atheism vs. theism" debate of the movie to tackle the nuances of civilization-building.
