Barisat

:

Barisal has a rich cultural heritage, with a blend of Bengali, Muslim, and British influences. The city is famous for its folk music, particularly the "Baul" tradition, which originated in the region. The annual Barisal Utsav (festival) celebrates the city's cultural diversity, featuring traditional music, dance, and food.

Barisal is characterized by low-lying alluvial plains. The landscape is dominated by the estuaries of the Padma (Ganges) and Meghna rivers. Key rivers such as the Arial Khan, Bishkhali, Burishwar, and Tetulia crisscross the region. The soil is predominantly calcareous and alluvial, highly fertile but susceptible to salinity intrusion in coastal districts like Barguna and Patuakhali.
