To understand Bridge CS5, one must understand the landscape of 2010. This was the golden age of the perpetual license. Professionals bought "The Suite" (Design Premium, Web Premium, Production Premium) in a box. The challenge was inter-operability: how do you take a raw photo from Photoshop, vectorize it in Illustrator, and place it in an InDesign layout without chaos?

Bridge was the answer. It was the "hub" intended to sit at the center of the creative wheel. Bridge CS5 was the first version to truly take this role seriously, moving beyond basic browsing to offer robust backend processing.
