The movie follows Daikichi, a 29-year-old bachelor who is still living with his parents. One day, while on a summer vacation, he meets a six-year-old girl named Rin, who has been abandoned by her mother at a local shrine. Feeling sorry for Rin, Daikichi decides to take her in and care for her.
As Daikichi navigates his new role as a caregiver, he learns to appreciate the joys and challenges of raising a child. Rin, who is initially cold and distant, slowly warms up to Daikichi and begins to call him "otōsan" (father). As they spend more time together, Daikichi realizes that he has grown attached to Rin and decides to become her permanent caregiver.
